Ram Brewery development granted outline planning permission

On the 23rd July 2013 London Borough of Wandsworth’s planning committee resolved to grant consent for the redevelopment of the Ram Brewery site in Wandsworth. The outline planning application was submitted by Minerva in November 2012 and forms the centrepiece of Wandsworth town centre’s regeneration plans.

The development will deliver 661 new homes to the borough, and will include a 36 storey landmark residential tower designed by EPR architects, as well as over 9,500 sq m of space dedicated to new shops, cafes, bars and restaurants and 248 car parking spaces for the apartments.

The proposed development will preserve many of the site’s historic buildings which will be restored and refurbished, and a micro-brewery and a brewing museum will also be part of the completed scheme. If approved, the development would generate 500 new permanent jobs and 266 construction jobs. The River Wandle will be opened up and landscaped to provide public access along a new riverside walk.

Wandsworth Council’s decision to resolve to grant outline planning permission follows improvements and refinements to the initial plans after a series of consultation meetings between the Council, English Heritage and the local community.

Tim Garnham, Joint Chief Executive of Minerva, said:

The decision of the Wandsworth Planning Committee tonight will bring a huge boost for Wandsworth town centre.

We have worked hard to create a scheme which will showcase the site’s heritage buildings as well as provide new public spaces, incorporating the restoration of the River Wandle and establish the High Street as the centre of Wandsworth.

As well as regenerating a significant area at the heart of Wandsworth town centre, the plans will act as a catalyst for further local investment including the Council’s plans to redesign of the gyratory which will see the majority of traffic removed from the town centre”
